Emma Whitewood, a 40 year old Holistic Health Coach with green eyes, a big smile and dark wavy hair to her shoulders

Hi, I'm Emma Whitewood, a licensed Holistic Health Coach (Personalised Care Institute and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council), qualified yoga teacher (The British Wheel of Yoga) and therapist in training (CPCAB). I live in Dorset with my wife and our two children.

I have spent the last 4 years working in the NHS as a Health and Wellbeing Coach, supporting people to make sustainable changes to feel better. I bring that same care, professionalism, and respect when working with private clients. Before this, I worked for over a decade in Education as a Primary Teacher.

My clients are often women over the age of 35. Many of them are also neurodivergent. This particular subset respond well to my support because, due to the hormonal shift that we all experience in our mid 30s, their strategies for coping with life are no longer working. Suddenly, pushing through becomes impossible. We just...can't anymore.

Often high achievers, my clients live in a state of fight or flight, ignoring their body, their emotions and their own needs. And then one day it becomes too much. There may be a stark realisation that their life just...isn't their own. They crave a space to learn who they truly are and begin to discover their own needs, desires and aspirations.

As I have experienced this within my own life, it has become very important to me to support these women in finding better strategies, to find who they really are and stop the people pleasing/self-abandonment and self-doubt that has controlled their life thus far.

Once we understand ourselves, in turn comes self compassion, rather than guilt and shame.

"As a perimenopausal woman who is late diagnosed ADHD, I was in full and complete burnout. With Emma's support, I was able to prioritise myself and my own Self care for the first time. This has meant that I am able to function both within my career and in relationships too. It has been an amazing journey. "

-Ellen

"I have struggled with anxiety all my life. Through gaining a deeper understanding of my behaviours and connecting to how I feel in my body, I have been able to make real progress. I can now feel my feelings and learn from them. It has been so helpful. "

Frequently asked questions

Coaching is a person-centered process. We start from where you are, setting meaningful and simple challenges. Working together, we move forward in a positive and gentle way. This process creates lasting change. It isn't 'quick' but it is powerful. Combined with releasing trauma from the body (have a look at the somatic section to understand this a little more), these approaches mean very real and life changing shifts that stick. You are given the time and a safe space to explore your emotions and understand them better. Knowing your behaviours and having a better sense of who you are and why you behave as you do allows you to understand, accept and move toward more positive strategies.

I believe in the importance of considering the WHOLE person. We talk, just like any therapist session you would be used to. The difference is, we are noticing. Noticing what the body is telling us, how we feel and where we feel it. Connecting what the mind thinks to what the body feels, looking to understand the nervous system and connect what's happening in the brain to emotions and feelings in the body.

If your nervous system is in a state of fight or flight, resting becomes impossible. I will support you in learning simple tools that actually allow your body, mind and heart to rest. You deserve that.

One of the things we find most challenging is facing the pain or fear within. Allowing someone to support you means turning your penchant for distraction and avoidance into skills for connection and compassion.
